Urban Air is a project from LA artist Stephen Glassman that transforms billboards in C40 cities to bamboo gardens for a greener future. LA-based sculptor and Urban Air creator Stephen Glassman first caught international attention in the early 1990’s when he began creating free-form bamboo installations in devastated urban sites in the aftermath of the Rodney King riots, Malibu fires, and Northridge Quake. These works became symbols of resiliency in their LA communities and have evolved to become the permanent monumental sculptures and public artworks he creates today. Urban Air team members include award-winning producer Steve Reiss, Common CEO Dan Burrier, sustainability consultant Russell Fortmeyer, executive director of the Design Trust for Public Space Deborah Marton, structural engineer Bruce Danziger, and founder of Summit Media Alex Kouba. Summit Media — a Los Angeles based billboard company — has volunteered to lend their support and donate prominent billboards along major LA thoroughfares to provide the launchpad for the first Urban Air prototype.
Shara Karasic ran the social media efforts around the Kickstarter campaign which raised $100,000 in 45 days.
